Hummer Come back from the dead. After months of rumorsHummer, who was once seen as the symbol par excellence of all excesses, I return today as electric car. And although before it was a separate brand from the rest of General Motors brands, it will now be a model – or a range of models, rather – under the umbrella of the prestigious GMC. The first will be a pick-up, but soon an SUV will follow.
He will make his debut in a televised ad on the occasion of the Super bowl This weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers, with an estimated audience of about 120 million people. Although official presentation will be made on May 20, 2020 and its commercialization would not be until the autumn of 2021.

Little is known at the moment about this mastodon. Aesthetically, remember the calenders of the previous Hummer. So much that it is difficult to see in this calender, that of a GMC product. The historic GMC logo can only be seen in a corner and in a small format.
So far, GMC has only revealed that its pick-up will develop 1,000 hp and that you can make a 0 to 60 mph (96 km / h) in 3 seconds. It would approach the figures of the Tesla Cybertruck (0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds). In addition, GMC announces a 11,500 lb-ft torque, equivalent to 15,592 Nm.
GMC does not specify it, but we assume that value is the torque at the wheels. It is the result of multiplying the torque through the transmission. In other words, it serves to give a striking headline (although after the play of the Tesla Roadster, no longer strain, but it does not serve to determine the level of force that the engine (or engines) of this GMC Hummer.

The GMC Hummer will leave the Detroit-Hamtramck factory from the end of 2021, for which GM plans to invest about $ 3 billion to manufacture SUVs and electric pick-ups as part of the BT1 program.
The importance of pick-ups in the United States
With this model and a brand that sacrificed in 2010 shortly after filing for bankruptcy, General Motors would enter fully into an unknown market segment, but that at the same time will be vital on the other side of the puddle.
Pick-ups are the best selling cars in the country, but there is no electric pick-up currently on the market. Rivian and Tesla each have at least one pick-up planned, but they are not yet on the market.
In the segment of the pick-ups, the undisputed leader for 43 years is the Ford F-150 (448,398 units in 2018 and more than one million units if in the calculation we add the F-250 and other heavy pick-ups). They follow the Ram 1500 (299,480 units), which went from third to second position in 2018, and the Chevrolet Silverado (255,463 units in 2018), which has gone down one step from 2017.
Currently, the pick-up market in the United States represents some three million units a year. No wonder, therefore, that GM wants a piece of the pie, especially seeing Tesla's expectations with his Cybertruck and Rivian with the R1T they have created.
