Silex Microsystems is today a world leader in the production of microelectromechanical systems – MEMS. Now the company is expanding greatly and hiring more engineers to be in place at the start of production of a brand new factory in China.
The MEMS industry as such is under development and is currently undergoing tremendous growth. This means that there is a great need for manufacturing factories. The Swedish company Silex Microsystems is currently a world leader in production and is now also the first to start a manufacturing plant in China.
– We have solid experience, existing customers and the opportunity to scale up the production we already have at present. We also stand on a solid foundation with 20 years of experience and have all the parts needed in manufacturing, says Martin Hedström, Head of Process Transfer at Silex Microsystems.
Silex Microsystems currently manufactures a variety of components for world-leading companies around the world. The factory in China is intended to focus on a few components that can then be produced in larger volumes in order to scale up production and reduce production costs. The factory in Sweden will continue to produce a greater variety of products but then in lower volumes.
To start operations in China, Silex Microsystems trains its engineers for 12-18 months at the factory in Järfälla. Then a number of teams will be sent in batches to join and build the factory on site in China. The first team has already been trained and will go down already at the end of the first quarter of 2020.
– This is a dream situation if you as an engineer want to work abroad with a product that already works but still be able to contribute and influence the work and get involved and build something from the start, says Martin Hedström.
The idea is that there will always be a Swedish team in place during the first three years to put production and systems in place. One of the first to go is Magnus Dahl, Product Manager at Silex Microsystems.
– This is unexplored land because there is no clear road. You will need to work together as a team, because even if you have a job description, it will be difficult to know exactly what the work will mean on the spot. It will definitely be an adventure where the only thing that limits how much you can develop is yourself, says Magnus Dahl.
Silex is now looking for more engineers,
