At the age of 84, the famous Italian soprano Mirella Freni died. She died at home, after a long illness, just weeks before her 85th birthday.

The singer retired in 2005 after a half-year career. One of the most famous roles in her repertoire was Mimi from the opera La boheme Giacomo Puccini.
