The editor-in-chief of 168 Chassis newspaper, Slavi Angelov, was attacked and beaten by several people in Sofia, BNR reports.
According to media reports, the investigative journalist was attacked on the capital's Dondukov Boulevard. According to initial information, the attackers were several. Police arrived at the scene and the area was torn apart.
Angelov was taken to Queen John's University Hospital. He is contacted.
He told 24 Hours that the beating was most likely not for robbery because the attackers had not stolen the laptop he was carrying. Angelov told what else he remembered from the incident.
“I parked the car and drove home. A neighbor was walking in front of me. As soon as he entered the entrance, I saw a masked man. At first I didn't pay attention because many people now wear masks, but this one has a skull and bones,” Angelov said.
He said the attackers were two, hitting him with metal bars. A third person was recording the beating by phone. Angelov lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital when he regained consciousness.
A little later, the management of Media Group Bulgaria, which publishes 168 Hours, came out with an official position on the incident. “Dnevnik” publishes it without editorial intervention:
“The management of Media Group Bulgaria and all colleagues of the journalist Slavi Angelov express their indignation at the brutal attack on him. The attack is amazing with his provincial rudeness. Slavi was attacked in front of his home by two masked men, and at the time, a third man was shooting. The journalist was not robbed, which directed the investigation to Slavi Angelov's latest publications in the 168 Hours and 24 Hours and social networks.
Slavi Angelov is an investigative journalist with an active civic position on many topics, especially environmental issues, and is not afraid to be sharp.
We thank the Queen Joanna Hospital (better known as ISUL) and the Ministry of the Interior for their prompt and prompt response in these troubled times.
The 168 Hours Journalists review all of Slavi's latest publications and we will actively assist the investigative bodies.
Courage, Glory! We are with you!
