A CD / 5 titles has been circulating all over the place since Christmas. It is
songs by Georges Brassens, maliciously embellished by
Contrebrassens. Clearly, by
Pauline Dupuy on vocals + double bass, with three musicians:
Michael Wookey (banjo, guitar, toy piano, bells, strings), and the
Frank Boyron (trombone, guira) – Baptiste Sarat (bugle and sax-horn).
Covered with a repertoire of twenty songs, Contrebrassens
delight festivals, make a pipe (tobacco) in all the rooms.
Jazz pierces through the brass. In the mini-album, we
enjoy without getting tired The
Santa Claus and the Little girl; The Princess and the Croque-Notes; Don
Juan; There is no happy love; finally
Cupid goes away
fout. The Letter of
Pierre Schuller, By His Tree
(a mine) taught me about the nugget. The good Lord me

the choice of double bass?
first time I had a double bass in my hands, I
played the low string, and I felt the vibration all over my
body: I was very impressed. I said right away:
“Wow, that's what I want to do!”. I also liked
the idea of being able to support different artists in a lot of
different musical styles.
what circumstances did you discover Brassens?
discovered Brassens during a contemporary music residency
with musicians from the Conservatoire Supérieur de Lyon. The music
was serious, quite difficult. In the evening, we would take out a guitar:
the conductor with a few musicians all sang
Brassens to stretch your ears. There, I discovered
the immensity of his poetry, his humor, the social bond he
came up with the idea for your group’s title CONTREBRASSENS?
Very simple: it's the double bass and Brassens songs in
only one word ! We can happily decline the pun: A against
breaststroke, All against Brassens, etc.
How? 'Or' What
did you invent the personal touch in the air treatment
and Brassens texts? What stages have you gone through?
I started, I wanted to play the melodies, because it’s
only by working the songs that I realized
their complexity and their beauty, the genius of Brassens being
make everything perfectly fluid, almost spoken. Once these
good melodies “sung”
I added the interpretation of the text, the meaning, and I folded
the rhythm at this constraint there, hear the story and the
melody. With the double bass, I set myself as challenge ten
songs, ten different arrangements. I tried everything,
most refined bass line, to that completely illustrative
telling the story with me, trebles in the treble,
bow pumps or other percussion … All
specificity of Contrebrassens comes from there. Later, accompanied
of three talented musicians, I came to the beat and to the pleasure
to swing the words.
what did Brassens inspire you to do?
rigor and hard work inspired me from the start, a
an entire artist, he devoted his life to writing.
The outcome of each of his songs is exceptional: we
can sing them endlessly. I like to sing love or
brotherhood, I love this form of freedom that characterizes it,
his audacity, the rejection of dogmas. It allows everyone to rise
a little and touch something very intimate in us.
How? 'Or' What
do you judge Brassens' interpretation of his own songs?
Brassens performs his songs, he tells us a story. He has
put everything in his music and his texts, what more to do when he
sung? But it's fabulous for us, it leaves us
a huge place to tell our story, our story
do you think it is current?
is timeless, he’s a poet. He lifts us up. We will have
always need to defend humans, nature, freedom.
Brassens talks about all of this, but above all, he does it with art.
This is what raises the point, which touches us and makes us
grow at the same time.

El Niño Lorca
Christina Rosmini adapts, arranges, sings Federico Garcia Lorca in a salute show since its creation at the Toursky Theater in Marseille in 2019.
unfolds a musical tale around the life of the great poet. AT
from extracts from the author's work (poems, theater,
conferences, correspondence …), creation
the story of the famous Andalusian artist. This from songs

Over eighty years later
the start of the civil war which ended the Second Republic

Federico Garcia Lorca – executed in 1936, for his involvement in

Ian Gibson (A life). Christina Rosmini integrates amples
extracts from the poet’s work. To pay tribute to the Spanish born
in 1898 near Granada, the singer privileges the language

dramatist discovers with alarm an oppressive system, during the
stay in New York, in 1929, at the heart of the financial crisis. The
Master's blessing, Paco Ibañez, gave wings to
Christina Rosmini. Ibañez served to the singer the adaptation of
Poema para el Joven by Federico Garcia Lorca, for the prologue
of representation. Which faithfully captures the spirit of Lorca
(We must resuscitate childish souls).
