February 14, 2020 – Pierre Gasly feels physically and mentally stronger than in previous years. For example, the Frenchman announced in an exclusive interview with GPUpdate.net prior to the unveiling of the AlphaTauri AT01 Formula 1 car.
Gasly has had a difficult 2019, because he lost his seat at Red Bull Racing mid-season. At Toro Rosso, however, he got on very well, with the cherry on the cake in second place in the Grand Prix of Brazil. When asked what the goals are for the 2020 season, Gasly said against GPUpdate.net: “I am a competitive boy. I want to score points, be consistent and go fast all year round, but I do not have enough information at the moment to say whether we are in the top five, top eight, top twelve or top fifteen, but what I can say for sure is that we want to do better this year than last year and last year we became sixth in the championship, so this year we want to try to become fifth That is what we are going for, that is the great wish of this team. “
“Of course I also want to do better than last year”, continued the 24-year-old driver from Rouen, who was relieved in 2019 after a difficult first half of the season at Red Bull to Toro Rosso, which is now called AlphaTauri. “I hope to be able to continue the line of the last few races of last season – in Brazil I finished on the podium – and so I want to be consistent, make fewer mistakes and just be stronger.”
Apart from the name change, little has changed with the Italian team, according to Gasly. “I wear different clothes. But they are the same people,” says Gasly. “We are also still in Faenza. So there is no major change. It certainly does not feel very different.” AlphaTauri is the name of the Red Bull clothing line. “I find it exciting. I have loved Formula 1 all my life and fashion is another big passion of mine. To see those two worlds coming together, I find it exciting. I now have more clothes than before . I have to look for a larger wardrobe! The new name is somewhere else a new start. It is an exciting project. “
Gasly feels stronger than a year ago when he was on the eve of his debut with the big Red Bull. “I have had a good winter. I spent some time with family over Christmas and celebrated New Year's Eve with friends. I took it easy and tried not to be racing for a while, as the seasons keep getting longer and there is less and less time left for family and friends, so I had a good time and then started training again to prepare myself for this year, I went to the US to train and it went on pretty firm. I feel physically and mentally better prepared than in previous seasons. I am ready to get started. “
