Video conferencing software is now the foundation of every business. Google Meet was not able to use its privileged position, which is why Google is doing its best to attract new customers. I wonder what will come of it?
There is a meme that has been on the web since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Presents a meeting of directors in a large corporation. The signature reads: now we will see which meetings we can convert to e-mail. There is something about it. In many companies, coronavirus has completely changed the way they work, and video conferencing software has become a key tool. At first I thought that Google would win everything, after all it is a giant that has almost the entire internet. Everything revolves around their products. However, life likes to surprise us. It turns out that Google Meet is former president Komorowski, and Zoom became president Duda, who emerges from nowhere and wins the election!
Forgive political analogy. As a rule, I try to avoid politics, but previous presidential elections perfectly reflect the current situation. Google was too confident, it started from a privileged position, but something did not surprise. Zoom was simply better in many ways. Google is well aware of this and does not fold gloves anyway. I respect them for that.
Google Meet could just lie comfortably where it is now, the chance of its death is close to zero so far, just fewer people would use this product, but it would still be used. But no! He fights bravely and becomes … more and more similar to Zoom.
Google Meet plants and gives for free
I know that the word “fertile” has a negative connotation, but we can confidently say that in the case of online services it is the highest form of recognition for competition. This is proof that the product from which it is pulled did it well. Google made a few quick moves. First of all, he added the tile view known from Zoom, and not only he because Skype did the same. In addition, it increased the quality of video transmission because it was also losing with Zoom in this field. It also improved the image in the event of poor lighting and used its algorithms to remove background noise. Fortunately, unlike Zoom, he didn't have to talk about safety because they were really well-mannered.
There is only one snag. All this is available in the paid version that is included in the G Suite. So how do you encourage people who are undecided and can use Zoom for free? Exactly! They had only one solution left. Google decided to make Meet free for everyone, without exceptions. The whole will be made available in waves in the coming weeks. May these weeks not be too much if they want to have a chance.
Everyone, even individual clients, will be able to set up meetings for up to 100 people, and until September 30 the time limit for the meeting was 60 minutes.
Google is thriving. He knows that he needs to encourage as many companies and organizations as possible to make them want to buy their G Suite. Making it available for a few months for free is a perfect way for the company to get hooked and want to spend money. I am very curious how will the number of their clients look in Q4 2020.
