We are discovering a trend with new Hyundai cars: the touchscreen and the instruments cannot be separated from each other with their plastic hands. In the new Hyundai i10 (test) they are connected to each other and now again, in the new i20. We are open to the idea, but there is so much plastic involved.
10.25 inch touchscreen plus digital instruments
The central touchscreen in the photos is also 10.25 inches in size. Until recently, such a large screen area was reserved for more expensive Hyundai models, such as the Kona and the Ioniq. The digital set of instruments is also so large. Together they give the interior of the i20 a hypermodern appearance. We will hear later what such a set of screens does for your wallet.
Green stitching and accents in Hyundai i20
The green stitching and accents (click on the photos to view them in large size) have a name. They are part of the Yellow Green theme. If the naming of the other two interior themes works similarly, we think we know what “Black Mono” and “Black & Gray” will look like. We would have liked to see the color orange somewhere in the mix. In the Hyundai Kona Hybrid (test), we found orange to be a better accent color than green. But tastes differ.
Enough real buttons
One thing everyone will agree on is how useful real buttons are. Thus we are pleased to look at the rotary knob for the volume and the two rows of buttons for the climate control and the driving programs. The buttons under the touchscreen are similar to touch buttons. We are going to try them out first and then – if they are clumsy – knock them off. But not too hard, because the steering wheel has large clear buttons and that makes us happy again.
Hyundai i20 will be launched in summer 2020
Other aspects to look forward to include the larger trunk (351 liters), mild hybrid technology that cuts 3 to 4 percent of emissions and fuel consumption, and adaptive cruise control that takes into account speed limits, provided they are properly navigated stand. The new Hyundai i20 will come to the Dutch showrooms in the summer.
