After 20 years, the national goalkeeper S Kumar has finally announced his retirement from the international stage.
Labeled as the country's best goalkeeper and one of the best in the world, the 40-year-old made the announcement at a media conference today attended by Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) President Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal.
Kumar said it was hard for him to announce his retirement after playing for a long time with the national squad.
He also feels frustrated that he failed to compete in the Olympics, the only tournament he has never attended.
Kumar made his first appearance at the 1999 Brunei Sea Games and collected a total of 321 caps.
