“Urgent measures are needed”, warns the Private Media Platform (PMP), which brings together the media groups Cofina, Global Media, Impresa, Media Capital, Público and Renascença Multimédia. After having signed a letter addressed to the Minister of Economy together with the associations of the sector, where measures are requested to prevent the collapse of the press, the PMP now reinforces in a statement “its surprise and concern at the absence of an action program directed to the media ”. “Due to the profound impacts of the current crisis on the sector, we expect no less than expected for the sectors of tourism and culture. Urgent measures are needed, to which we are already available to contribute ”, points out the platform that represents private media groups.
“The sharp drop in revenue, the strong cost increases, the difficulties in the production, logistics and distribution of publications do not undermine our will, but seriously compromise our survival if nothing is done to support those who want to remain at the service of all ”, Warn the media groups, who, although they see“ positively the measures announced by the Government regarding the easing of tax contributions ”, draw attention to the fact that“ nothing is advanced to eliminate the situation of fiscal immorality from which they benefit platforms and other global competitors installed in our territory ”.
“The introduction of obligations on these players would, at the same time, mitigate the negative budgetary effects of the crisis and introduce decency into the market, now especially fragile”, defend the Portuguese media groups.
