In the framework of government measures related to the coronavirus, the validity of expiring documents has been extended and accepted by insurers, the Hungarian Association of Insurers (Mabisz) said on Thursday.
In their statement, they recalled that according to a government decree of March 11, the expiring official documents of Hungarian citizens in force in Hungary are valid for 15 days after the end of the emergency, given the spreading coronavirus.
According to the organization, in recent days there have been speculations in the press that if an out-of-date motor vehicle causes an accident, the damage it causes may not be covered by compulsory motor third party liability insurance, as the insurer may claim that the terms and conditions.
Mabisz emphasized that insurance companies will accept expired documents at the time of the emergency and for 15 days thereafter.
At the same time, the association pointed out that all drivers should continue to have valid compulsory motor third party liability insurance.
