The rains of the last few days have resulted in “inflating” irrigation canals and overflowing rivers in some places in the prefectures of Trikala and Karditsa, such as Pinios and Pamisos. In fact, on Sunday, the traffic on the provincial road network Megala Kalyvia – Magoula and Klokotos – Kodra was stopped, while machines of the Regional Unit of Trikala are cleaning the irrigation canals to release the amounts of water that have accumulated. From the afternoon of Sunday, the situation began to worsen with the overflow of the Enipeas River and the Pinios in Keramidi, to be followed by the communities of Zarkos and Pineiada. The floods damaged wheat crops as well as corn fields. However, damage was also caused to areas that were ready for cultivation, as farmers had been working in the past few days.
