As it says Jutarnji.hr, in the UK just
is testing a new type of electric car charger that “pops” out
floor. Pop-up charging hubs from Urban Electric,
namely, they can be useful to EV owners without having to drive in front of the house how
would charge the batteries of their electric cars if they had nowhere to park except
on the street.
In the UK, 43% of households (or 8%)
million cars) according to Urban Electric, no ability to charge vehicles in
home, which is why chargers on the street along the curb make a lot of sense. These chargers
deliver a charging speed of 7kW and are suitable for 90 percent of residential streets.
Although 7kW might not sound like much, these charging units are designed
for use during the night, and since they are located in residential areas, means
that EV owners will use them as often as they want or have to.
The way the system is designed to work is such that
when the driver approaches the app-driven charger in the smart
On the phone, the charging station simply “pulls” out of the floor.
Tom Hayes a member of the Oxford City Council stated that
the idea of Urban Electric will certainly help to shape life with electric
vehicles which is probably ahead of us in the future and is very pleased because
is Oxford the first city to try this technology.
In the meantime, feedback from participating users
in testing the new system have shown that reliability, access and availability
the most important factors that are satisfied, so they give the innovation an overall average rating
4.3 out of 5.
“We were thrilled to learn that everyone
residents, not just electric car drivers, were pleased
by erecting a new charging hub on their street, confirming ours
“pop-up 'concept very useful and discreet” – he said
Urban Electric co-founder Olivier Freeling-Wilkinson.
