Porsche with the collaboration of the fashion brand Aimé Leon Dore (ALD) of New York through its founder and Creative Director Teddy Santis, worked on the restoration of a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (type 964).
The project included several months of research prior to the beginning of the design. That investigation included visits by Santis to the Porsche Museum and the Porsche 911 assembly plant in Stuttgart, Germany.
The most important part of the restoration includes a fully customized cabin, including Schott sunflower leather and Loro Piana houndstooth fabric, materials that stand out in the Aimé Leon Dore clothing collection for Fall / Winter 2020. The seats were restored at the Recaro facility in Kirchheim, Germany. The trunk of the Porsche 911 is upholstered in Schott leather with Loro Piana details. It also has a toiletry bag inspired by the Porsche Classic catalog designs.
The restored 911 dashboard includes fine-grained leather, as do the door panels and the steering wheel. On the roof and sunroof cover they used turned skin.
As for the exterior, it has a white finish, which represents the characteristic white facade of the ALD store on Mulberry Street, in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan.
The “duck tail” rear wing was also inspired by another classic Porsche, the 911 Carrera RS 2.7, the Cup 2 wheels have an air of the Porsche of the 90s.
In addition, this vehicle includes a Pegasus graphic detail above the front wheel, which was designed for this project, which refers to the historical logos of the competition Porsche.
Something notable is the custom designed shield on the grid, which is a reference to the distinctive emblems of Porsche clubs.
The technical restoration and the assembly of the vehicle were carried out with original Porsche parts of the time, with the collaboration of Porsche Classic.
The restored Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (Type 964) Aimé Leon Dore was presented at the ALD fashion show at the New York Fashion Week 2020 that ended yesterday and was exhibited at the iconic Jeffrey Deitch gallery in New York.
During the presentation of this vehicle Teddy Santis pointed out the following,
Working together with Porsche on this project is to make a dream come true. It has been a great responsibility that I have been entrusted with this idea, of such importance to the Porsche community, and collaborating together in a design that has decisively influenced my personal attitudes and goals.
For his part, the Vice President of Marketing of Porsche AG, Kjell Gruner, commented that “Teddy Santis is as a Porsche fan as we are, and we are delighted to see his inspiration and creativity applied to 911. His interpretation is visually amazing and also shows unique features for a 964, it is a true exclusive piece“.
