SUNGAI PETANI: More than 100 families affected by the Bukit Selambau Water Treatment Plant (LRA) failed to operate, disappointed that they had not received clean water since Thursday.
Surveys in several affected locations found residents had to transport water repeatedly from a tank placed in front of the Cambodia Zone Amanjaya pump house for family use.
The resident of Anggerik Park, Sarvan Singh Prem Singh, 53, said he had to transport water five times a day for the use of his family members.
“Since there is a problem in my home area I only accept water provided by the Volunteer Fire Department, but the water is a bit turbid and unsuitable for cooking.
“Therefore, I had to commute several times from home to a water tank located about a kilometer from home to get clean water supply,” he said when met today.
The Darul Aman Water Company (SADA) yesterday informed that the Bukit Selambau LRA is still unable to operate due to low river levels.
According to monitoring, the face level at the plant at 8am yesterday was at 1.32 meters, which is lower than the critical level of 1.8 meters.
Taman Seri Tanjung resident Mariam Thursday, 34, said she had to carry water for her two children as her husband worked outside the area.
“The tank here is not always water, this is the fourth time I've come to this tank since 6am. I didn't know the water delivery schedule so had to come over many times.
“Since I am pregnant, I can only lift two barrels of 10 liters twice. If the water truck does not come home, tomorrow I will take it again,” he said.
Homemaker Noor Almisufiza Isaac, 40, from Risa Kelisa Park, said she had to spend some money to buy mineral water for cooking and treatment for her sick son.
“The lack of clean water at home makes it difficult for our families to carry on using mineral water for eating and drinking purposes, as well as washing their medical equipment.
“I had to leave her at home alone to fetch water from a tank or a contact house due to the absence of clean water directly to our house,” he said.
