Worn by an excellent Islam Slimani, Monaco logically gained the upper hand over Montpellier (1-0), this Friday, at the opening of the 25th day of Ligue 1. A third success of rank which allows the princely club to rise to 5th place and to seriously apply for a European place at the end of the season.
Slimani scored the victory goal for Monaco.
What if Monaco was definitely launched in the race for Europe? If it should not be ignited with the princely formation, it enchanted against Montpellier (1-0), this Friday, at the opening of the 25th day of Ligue 1, its third consecutive victory, its best series since the start of the season.
A success which allows especially the champion of France 2017 to go up to the 5th row, thus passing in front of his victim of the evening in the classification, to temporarily return 3 points of the podium.
Strile domination for Monaco
If Mollet forced Lecomte to make a reflex parade, it was the Mongasques who monopolized the ball. Problem, the princely team was split in two, with completely lone attackers walking on their feet. Then came the time for Slimani to hang up to organize the game. A much more interesting tactic for the ASM, who put great pressure on the opposing side.
The Algerian, very comfortable in his role of attacking retreat, even obtained a standard opportunity after a great collective action, forcing Souquet to push back his strike at the very end on the line, while Golovin was completely hole in the crowd. In confidence, Monaco was pushing hard. Slimani, Jovetic and Ben Yedder tried their luck, but they all narrowly missed the target.
Slimani free Louis II
As soon as the locker room returned, Monaco finally made the difference. On a Golovin corner, Slimani flew off to smash the ball from the head (1-0, 52nd). An open score deserves which, paradoxically, made the premises move back. Less urgent, Robert Moreno's men let the Hraultais rebiff and play much higher on the lawn. This could have resulted in an immediate sanction, but newcomer Yun lacked lucidity at the time of concluding.
A hot alert which Monaco replied with Bakayoko, who found the bar on a heavy strike of 20 meters. Better in the last quarter of an hour, with a second wind found, the boarders of Louis II put again the pressure on the goal of Bertaud without however succeeding in converting his net opportunities by Henrichs and Bald. Without consequence, since the ASM kept its lead on the bulletin board until the end. You will have to count on Monaco in the coming weeks!
The match score: 6/10
A living match. Monaco, carried by its offensive trio in sight, has continued to push to find the fault, while Montpellier has never let go, never closing the game despite a lack of inspiration offensively. Despite the felt atmosphere of Louis II, the game was pleasant to follow.
The goal :
– Monaco gets a corner after a good job from Golovin. The Russian takes care of shooting him and finding Slimani in the area. The Algerian plays with Hilton to smash his head end shot, leaving no chance Bertaud (1-0, 52nd).
Maxifoot has assigned a score (out of 10) comments on each player.
Man of the Match: Islam Slimani (7.5 / 10)
With the Algerian on the ground, you immediately feel the difference. Very clever in its placement, always quick to combine with its partners, the Fennec was a real poison for the defense of Haiti. He is logically rewarded with a goal from the head on a corner on the return from the locker room. A performance of choice, one more, which confirms the importance of the African champion, who showed altruism throughout the match, for ASM.
Benjamin Lecomte (6): the Mongolian goalkeeper, facing his former club, did not have much to do. However, he made a superb stop in front of Mollet at the start of the match, allowing his team not to be in trouble quickly.
Ruben Aguilar (7): a real good match from the right side against his former club. At ease in his lane, he never hesitated to bring in excess, offering Slimani caviar shortly after half an hour of play. He was very active throughout the game.
Guillermo Maripn (6.5): the Chilean made a clean copy. Its quality of recovery was very appreciable, with many vertical passes of rare precision. Reassuring.
Kamil Glik (7): we saw a good Glik this evening. Solid on his support, concentrated, the Pole distinguished himself with two standards interventions in the 24th minute. He too clearly did not tremble in the face of the timid Hrault attackers.
Fod Ballo Tour (6): even if he had some defensive errors, the left side was enterprising. However, it lacked precision on its centers. Pity.
Youssouf Fofana (7): the matches pass and the young midfielder still shows as much personality. Whether in a retreating or more offensive position, the Asmist rookie was sharp. Very auspicious for the rest of the events.
Timou Bakayoko (6): surprisingly, the Mongolian midfielder was much more in sight offensively than on the defensive level. He never hesitated to project himself, finding the bar with a heavy strike in the second period.
Aleksandr Golovin (6.5): a two-face match. A fairly neutral first period, with easy passes missed and a huge missed goal. Then a second act where the Russian environment hurts very badly on its transmissions, with in particular a perfectly kicked corner for Slimani. Replace the 86th minute with Benjamin Henrichs (not rated).
Stevan Jovetic (7): Montngrin had a good game. Placed behind the two attackers, the former Manchester City player was particularly interesting in his role as distributor, with fantastic passes of all beauty. He could have opened the brand in the first period of a heavy strike. Interesting! Replace the 75th minute with Keita Bald (not rated), which misses a standard opportunity late in the game.
Wissam Ben Yedder (6): not the best match of the French striker, who however showed good things, especially in combativit. Like Slimani, he showed altruism by often seeking the collective solution to make his partners shine.
Islam Slimani (7.5): read comment above.
Dimitry Bertaud (5): holder in the absence of Rulli, suspended, the hrault goalkeeper could not do anything on the winning head of Slimani. He paradoxically had little to do since the opposing attackers often missed the frame on their attempts.
Daniel Congr (5): the central defender suffered from the speed of the offensive ASM players. He has often been tricked by Ben Yedder.
Hilton (4): the pailladin veteran was disappointed. He is eaten in his duel with Slimani on the goal of the Algerian, who gave him a lot of hard time this evening. A difficult part.
Damien Le Tallec (5): if he had a little less trouble than his captain in the duels, he was feverish in the recovery in the first half hour. Not completely reassuring.
Arnaud Souquet (5): a very big rescue on a strike from Slimani in the first period, certainly, but too few initiatives taken overall. An average game.
Tji Savanier (4): once is not customary, the Montpellier environment has been particularly awkward passing as on its attempts. He was quite nervous, which detained on his team. Replace the 79th minute with Souleymane Camara (not rated).
Jordan Ferri (5.5): one of the only players on his team to have gained ground on his scores. But the former Lyonnais was too much to weigh on the Asmist defense.
Joris Chotard (4,5): average … The middle of France did not normally weigh in the midfield. He struggled in duels with Fofana and Bakayoko, who did not give him the opportunity to express himself. Replace the 64th minute with Il-lok Yun (not rated).
Mihailo Ristic (4): pref Oyongo, the Serb suffered normally against Aguilar. Offensively, it was nonexistent. A big disappointment. Replace the 86th minute with Bilal Boutobba (not rated).
Florent Mollet (4): a big opportunity at the start of the match … and that's it. Enmeshed in the Asmist defense, the playmaker lived a nightmare, since he did not succeed in meeting the physical challenge of the opposing players.
Gatan Laborde (3): in the absence of his partner Delort, the former Bordeaux resident had much more difficulty. Forced to export on the wings to touch the ball, he did not weigh at all this evening. Ghostly.
