The World Photography Organization has announced the list of finalists for the Sony World Photography Awards 2020. The entries amounted to 345,000 from 203 countries for the 4 competitions, with 135,000 entries in 10 categories. This year, in fact, a new category, “environment”, was introduced, with the aim of raising public awareness about the issue of climate change. Among them, a photo of Iggy Pop from a concert reminiscent of a painting by Caravaggio stands out. The works of the finalists of the professional competition and the amateurs were to be presented in the context of the exhibition Sony World Photography Awards 2020 at Somerset House (April 17 – May 4). However, under UK government guidelines for staff and visitor health and safety, the World Photography Organization has decided to cancel the exhibition as well as the Sony World Photography Awards (June 9).
