Manchester. The president of the best Spanish football league, Javier Tebas, is pleased that Manchester City has been penalized for violating the Financial Fair Play Rules (FFP).
On Twitter, Javier Tebas praises the European Football Federation (UEFA) for finally taking action.
– Enforcing the rules of Financial Fair Play and penalizing financial doping is essential to the future of football.
– We have been asking for a severe sanction against Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain for several years. Better late than never, writes Javier Tebas.
Manchester City has been excluded from European club tournaments for two years.
This was announced by Uefa on Friday in a press release.
The penalty applies in the seasons 2020/2021 and 2021/2022.
The case has been investigated by The Club Financial Control Body (CFCB).
The CFCB is the body in Uefa that judges in cases where football clubs are suspected of violating the CFP rules.
According to the CFCB, Manchester City has committed serious breaches of the CFP rules by, among other things, exaggerating the club's sponsorship revenue between 2012 and 2016.
