Prague – The June European rafting championships at Lipno and Roudnice nad Labem will not take place. The championship for four- and six-member teams was scheduled to take place from 8 to 13 June, but the Czech Republic's Boatmen Association decided to cancel it due to the coronavirus pandemic. Czechs want to run again in the future.
“Given the overall evolution of the pandemic situation, government measures and future uncertainty, we have decided to cancel the European Rafting Championship 2020. At the same time, we have expressed our desire and ambition to host the European or World Championships in any of the coming years,” canoeing chairman Libor Polák.
The championship was to start unconventionally with a downhill ride on the Vltava River below the Lipno Dam. Then the participants were supposed to move to Roudnice nad Labem, where they had to take part in an artificial slalom course in sprint, elimination head to head and slalom.
In the Czech term list, all rafting plants were canceled by the end of May. Meanwhile, the R4 World Rafting Championships are scheduled to be hosted in China's C'yuan province in August.
