The Geneva Motor Show, intended for global publicity, fell behind, but we had personally seen the 2020 versions of the 320-horsepower compact hothatch long before that. The Civic Type R Sport Line has been given a more sober optical garnish than ever known, and its chassis has also been adapted for more mundane use. The Limited Edition is a different dough, as a number of extras have been unpacked for weight loss, lighter parts have been sown in some places, bringing together a 47kg diet. To make one more twist in the story, only 100 copies of the latter machine are made for the European market – they will probably catch on quickly…
Visiting the headquarters of JAS Motorsport, of course, touring has also come into focus, here are some important facts about the joint activity of the Arluno company and Honda. The Honda Civic Type R TCR, which is included in the Touring Car World Cup, the WTCR and all the TCR championships in the world, is being built by the Italian tuning company JAS Motorsport. The company, which operates in 3,500 square meters with three workshops, has been in existence since 1995 and has been a partner of Honda since 1998. At the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and its successor, the WTCR, only cars rebuilt and prepared by JAS Motorsport have been a success for Honda. The JAS – Honda duo recorded a total of 32 victories and 2 World Cup titles. The most successful Hungarian car racer, last year's WTCR champion Norbert Michelisz, won the World Championship second in 2017 with a JAS – Honda Civick.
The birth of the race car was announced by Mads Fischer, the company's head of business development at Denmark. “Once the bare body and the necessary parts arrive from Honda, we cut off the top of the car, insert the roll bar, and then do all the other body work. The roof is welded back, then comes the polishing and then the actual assembly work, which consists of 3 stages. The interior of the car is completed, the instrument panel, fuel supply system, tank, wiring, braking system are installed, the door hinges and doors are installed. Then the rear suspension and exhaust system are inserted, until the last time the front of the car is completed, we also install the engine, transmission and front suspension. When the car is ready, inspections and settings come, until we finally test the car before each handover. A Honda Civic Type R TCR model is completed in 390-400 man-hours. The bodywork takes 205-210 hours and the assembly phases take 160-165 hours. The inspection, adjustment and test take 25-35 hours of work. JAS Motorsport employs 5 executives, 20 engineers and 30 mechanics, working closely with Honda’s racing divisions in both Japan and the US. If requested by our customers, we will also provide them with a separate competition engineer for the handover.
