WOŚP ordered 50,000 Individual Biological Protection Packages (IPOB) that will ensure a high level of safety for doctors and medical personnel saving the life and health of people infected with coronavirus. The foundations for the fight against coronavirus will provide almost PLN 20 million, said spokesman of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Krzysztof Dobies.
According to Dobies, the cost of purchasing the package was partly covered by funds collected in 2019 as part of 1%. tax and partly from the collection of the 28th Final of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.
Board member and medical director of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Lidia Niedźwiedzka-Owsiak said that the Foundation contacted manufacturers of medical equipment and devices around the world as soon as the Polish healthcare system began preparations for the fight against coronavirus.
– It is not easy in the conditions of enormous demand practically all over the world, but as the Foundation allocates tens of millions of euros annually to purchase equipment for hospitals, we have a very strong negotiating position. Thanks to this, we were able to obtain 150 beds for the ICU in the first place, and now advanced laboratory equipment and the most popular personal protection sets. Certainly this is not our last word, because we are also launching a special intervention fund and planning further purchases – she emphasized.
Each IPOB set includes a protective suit with additional shoes, panoramic safety goggles that allow you to wear corrective lenses at the same time, two pairs of nitrile gloves, a protective mask in P3 class with a mechanical filter and breathing valve, certified medical device and medical waste bag. The set allows full protection of one person while performing their duties in contact with potentially pathogenic microorganisms.
Delivery of ordered sets will take a maximum of several days. The WOŚP Foundation will then start immediately distributing packages to several dozen established jointly with the Ministry of Health of the most needy medical facilities.
The foundation is also in the process of accelerating the purchase of a specialized laboratory analyzer that allows coronavirus testing. The device will be transferred to the Central Laboratory of Genetic Research in Children's Oncology ONCOLAB The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity in Łódź. This laboratory has recently been included in the network of laboratories performing coronavirus tests.
WOŚP had earlier decided to purchase 150 specialist hospital beds for intensive care positions worth nearly PLN 4 million to support the fight against coronavirus. The Foundation has already received from the Ministry of Health a proposal of facilities to which the purchased beds are to go. They are to be delivered by the end of April.
The Foundation also announced the creation of an intervention fund targeted at the Foundation's business partners and enterprises wishing to engage in the fight against coronavirus. The fund aims to finance subsequent purchases of medical equipment and supplies for medical facilities fighting an epidemic. However, no public fundraising is planned at the moment, the fund will be based solely on company donations.
